Postsecondary schools in North Carolina educate students in academic programs across various disciplines such as healthcare, business administration and technology. Students who earn a degree from the community colleges can also apply for career licenses and gain employment in their specialty field.

Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College

Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College is a two-year public college. Founded in 1959, the college offers certificate, diploma and Associate degree programs. Certificates are offered in programs such as surveying fundamentals, automotive systems technology, web programming, word processing and construction management.

Students can earn a diploma in cosmetology, carpentry, air conditioning, heating and refrigeration and dental assisting. Associate degrees are offered in various academic fields including dental hygiene, electronics technology, industrial systems technology, entrepreneurship and human resources management.

Daytime, evening and distance learning classes are available. Students can receive financial assistance via scholarships, grants and student loans to offset the cost of tuition. Approximately 10,000 students attend the college. Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Beaufort County Community College

Distance learning and continuing education courses are available at Beaufort County Community College, a two year public college. Professor to student ratio is about 1 to 25. Associate degrees, Diplomas and certificates are awarded at the college. Automotive technology, general accounting, visual basic programming and welding are certificate programs students can enroll in.

Earn a diploma in cosmetology, practical nursing, human services technology or applied electrical principles. Beaufort County Community College issues Associate degrees across various programs including business administration, criminal justice, electrical engineering, office administration and networking technology. Attend the postsecondary school on a part-time or full-time basis.

Students can use scholarships, grants and student loans to help offset the cost of tuition. Resume writing, job fairs and career workshops are offered through the college’s Career Center. Beaufort County Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Piedmont Community College

Students can enroll at Piedmont Community College’s Roxboro, North Carolina campus or at the school’s Yanceyville, North Carolina campus. Certificates, diplomas and associate degrees are offered across various programs including business administration, nursing, human services technology, film and video production and cosmetology.

Associate degrees are offered in nursing, fine arts and science. Students can earn a certificate or diploma in programs such as accounting, industrial systems technology, medical assisting and facility maintenance technology. The Student Nursing Association, Cosmetology Club and Student Government Association are some of the student organizations that exist at the college. Childcare, for students with children, is available at the Person County Child Development Center in Roxboro.

Scholarships, student loans and state and federal grants are accepted to offset the cost of tuition. Should students need academic support, they can visit the Academic Success Center to receive tutoring. Piedmont County Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
